You Know You’ve Become an Adult When…
This post is dedicated to all of those moments of when it become strikingly clear that you are no longer the carefree kid and you realize you have in fact become….and ADULT. Inevitably after you have come to the realization you think to yourself, wait WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN!! It was just yesterday I was in high school driving around with my friends listening to homemade CD mixes. Now I work 50-60 hours a week, pay bills, and look forward to Saturdays when I can sleep in. Not cool, not cool.
Anyways, now that I am over my shock/disappointment of my mini-revelation I will get on with the post.
You know you’ve become an adult when…
- staying up until 3am requires a few days of preparation and a few days of recovery.
- you are too old to wear clothes from the Junior’s dept.
- you save money for retirement instead of for next weekend’s beer supply.
- you would rather get a new vacuum for your birthday instead of new clothes.
- night’s out on the town, turn into dinner parties at home.
- your friends start asking if they can bring their kids along.
- your to-do list contains things like - pay the bills, clean out the fridge, clean the bathroom, and pay your taxes. (Pay, clean, clean, pay…there seems to be a pattern here.)
- you only drink Natty Light when you are trying to relive your younger days.
- you try to relive your younger days.
- you see kids driving and think “they can’t be older than 14″.
- you leave concerts or games early to beat the crowd.
- driving is more of a chore than a fun activity.
- it’s no longer cute or funny when you mess things up.
- you get excited about a new couch or a new dining room table.
- you have an actual dining room with a table that allows for more than two people to sit down.
- Aleve, Ibuprofen, or some pain reliever is a staple in your house, car, and even your purse.
- there is actually food in your refrigerator, like all of the time.
- you care more about how your clothes look on and how much they cost than what is on the label.
- you go out and actually prefer to remember your night when you wake up in the morning.
- you’ve uttered the words “I don’t have time for TV”.
So now that I clearly have become an adult (that could still be debate-able according to some), I have come to accept my fate and try to enjoy it as much as I can. What are some things that make you realize you are an adult?
