26 Lessons I’ve Learned in 26 Years

It is the beginning of a new year when everyone is taking some time to reflect on life. In my short time here, I have come to learn a few lessons in my life. So here is a list, one lesson for each year of my life. I hope that some ring true for you too.

  1. When it comes to friends, go for quality over quantity.
  2. Save money when you can, especially when you are younger.
  3. Don’t take your family for granted - they are you biggest fans and supporters.
  4. Venture out of your comfort zone in work and in relationships.
  5. Failure isn’t really failure - it is a learning experience. Grow from it.
  6. LAUGH - as much as you possibly can.
  7. Money matters, but not as much as what will make you happy.
  8. With work, don’t think about titles, think about the impact you make and strive to make a bigger impact.
  9. If you want to be happy, be thoughtful and considerate of others.
  10. Ideas formed while heavily intoxicated are usually the worst ideas sober.
  11. Be genuine and honest and surround yourself with people who do the same.
  12. When things don’t work out the way you want them to, it is not the end of the world. Give it time.
  13. Speak up and communicate what you need, don’t expect others to just know.
  14. A cold beer, sun, and music can cure almost anything.
  15. It’s a good idea to make plans so long as you understand nothing ever goes 100% according to plan.
  16. It doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing, do what makes you happy.
  17. Smile, because you never know when you will make someone’s day.
  18. You are always going to want something more, but don’t forget to be happy with what you have.
  19. You can’t change anyone, unless they want to change themselves.
  20. Spend as much time with the people you love, you never know when you may lose your chance to do so.
  21. The simple things in life are the sometimes the most enjoyable and what make you the most happy.
  22. Be who you are not who others want you to be.
  23. Risks are a good thing. Take them even if they don’t benefit you in the end.
  24. Don’t be afraid of challenges, embrace them and you will wind up stronger than before.
  25. You can gauge your friends by the extent of their judgement (or lack there of) of what you look like in the morning with no makeup.
  26. Everyone is a nerd at heart or goofy in their own way.

What would you add?
