GoDaddy hosting for Wordpress - Not a good mix
After 4 full days of researching and fighting GoDaddy hosting, the site is finally up! Only it is no longer hosted on GoDaddy. GoDaddy and Wordpress are not a good mix. I really wish I would have done my research beforehand, but I guess sometimes you only learn from your mistakes. The main issue I found with GoDaddy and Wordpress is that it is impossible to get permalinks to work. I am a very technical person and can usually figure anything out, but I tried every suggested solution and not a single one worked. All my permalinks went to a 404 page. I suppose there is some combination of hacks that will allow permalinks to function, but I finally made the decision to save myself the frustration and headaches and switched to a new hosting provider. In a matter of a few hours I had everything up and running. So if you are asking yourself “should I use GoDaddy hosting for Wordpress?” save yourself from the many wasted days and hours, do not go with GoDaddy and choose a more friendly Wordpress hosting provider. You will not regret the decision.
In case anyone was wondering. I chose to go with BlueHost to host my Wordpress blogs. So far the decision has been good. They have a 30 day money back gurantee so I figured I couldn’t go wrong.

Dec 19, 08 at 10:27 amI’m sorry to hear that you have moved hosts. In general, the permalinks option from the Settings menu within the WordPress admin area works without error.
I would like to learn more about your experience with permalinks on our hosting. Please email me with more details.
Thanks,
Alicia R.

Dec 19, 08 at 12:28 pmWere you using Windows or Linux hosting? Also was it just this one blog or did you have multiple blogs you were trying to host in one account? I only have experience with hosting one blog on Windows and it wasn’t too bad. Now the UI of the account manager in GD is another story.

Jan 26, 09 at 3:58 pmWoops, I think you just pissed GoDaddy with that article hehe.
I’m on DreamHost right now. Their panel is very easy to use I like it. They have some problems sometimes(I guess no hosting service is perfect), but until now I’m pretty satisfied with them.
Cheers.

I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my blog?
Of course, I will add backlink?
Regards, Timur I.
